BBB Mediation Services reaches out to legal community. “Many people do not know that the BBB can help with landlord/tenant disputes. They were happy to hear about what the BBB can do for them,” said Robnett. The booth allowed visitors to ask questions, explain complaints and give compliments to BBB Mediators. Apr 17, 2008 On Thursday, April 3, 2008 the BBB Mediation Services attended the Superior Court Community Forum at the Radisson Hotel and Conference Center in Fresno. The Forum was designed to provide information about the court and the programs it offers. It also provided a medium for discussion and brainstorming about the court’s current, and future, programs and services. More than 250 people attended. DA’s, Clerks, staff, Judges, nonprofits, and others all came to show their support of the community and the court. The event was a huge success. “It was nice to hear the different ideas about how the court can help individuals and businesses” said Irma Robnett, a BBB Mediator.
Liz Garvin, director of Mediation, participated in a Civil Law panel discussing Unlawful Detainers and Small Claims. The panel promoted Mediation and its relevance as a method of dispute resolution. She did an excellent job explaining what Mediation is and how it can be applied to many different kinds of complaints. “The BBB hopes the panel will serve as a stepping stone for enabling people to see mediation as their number one choice for solving their disputes,” said Garvin.
The BBB was one of many organizations to have a featured booth at the forum. The booth was a great way to get the BBB’s name out to the public and advertise the free services they offer the community. One of the biggest hits with visitors at the forum were the Landlord/Tenant Dispute booklets.
“Many people do not know that the BBB can help with landlord/tenant disputes. They were happy to hear about what the BBB can do for them,” said Robnett. The booth allowed visitors to ask questions, explain complaints and give compliments to BBB Mediators. Visitors were able to receive information about the BBB, Mediation, Arbitration, and Conciliation.
“The event was a wonderful opportunity to educate the community about the many services the BBB provides,” said Garvin. “Hopefully, this is the first of many opportunities for the staff to promote mediation.”
